The Portland Dream

I love to do comparison shopping, afterall its my job. A few friends have been looking to buy in Brooklyn and I've taken it upon myself to scope out the real esate scene. And what i found is not cute. Or atleast not cute for my budget.

My Dwell subscription smacks me in the face each and every time I look at it. On the same note, Karen from Omnivore referred to Dwell as "evil" meaning that she too feels my pain. But Karen just moved from NYC to Portland so her opinion doesnt count anymore. She is obviously a very smart person is working "remotely" from Portland now.

Folks, I might have to pack my umbrella, sell my shoes and move to Portland, Oregon.

Black is serious about having our floors painted. He even bought a vacuum today. He asked me to buy a mop and then shit literally hit the fan. He was mopping so hard... It reminded me of that one scene from There's Something About Mary where the crazy tan grandma starts vacuuming her floor like mad..lifting furniture with one hand.

Recently i have been dabbling in men's fashion, which i really love because its a nice departure from the fickleness of women's wear. Only a couple of weeks ago my friend/style editor, Josh Peskowitz asked me to help him with trend reports at Men.Style.com. It was after my stint that another friend asked me if I could suggest some suit options for his wedding and lo and behold i have a professional opinion on that topic...

There is something about a man who wears a pair of Dries Van Noten's - He is a smart man, a true appreciator of fine design. Now that fine design can criss cross Manhattan without a trip to the Cobbler the next morning. Behold the red rubber sole wingtip.


Dries Van Noten glasses that I want for myself, but would like to see on just about any man who is a friend of mine.

The holidays are almost here. I am sitting at my desk and my fingers are like frozen breakfast links missing keys on this keyboard. As i type this, I can hear Christmas shoppers and tied up barking dogs who are probably freezing their nuts off.

While all the park slope yuppies take their platters of homemade cookies to their much anticipated holiday parties, I plan to go the movies to see Ellen Page in Juno who is featured in this month's
Paper Magazine styled by yours truly.

ROXY: Jennifer Smith

If fashion needs music, then, I need surfing.

In October i flew out to San Diego to do a photo shoot with two Roxy longboarders, Kassia Meador and Jennifer Smith.
The whole Roxy team, not excluding Kassia and Jenn embody the meaning of a strong female; which i'd like to think has an impact on the way I perceive women and how i think they should carry themselves.

The two girls are like the yin and yang of the water. Kassia's grace captivates you both in water and on land, and the
intractable Jenn is reminenscent of Joan Jett. Both girls possess an energy that I want to convert into photographs.
Hopefully, you will see an example of that in the February issue of Bust Magazine.

Recently, Jenn was in town so I stopped by the Roxy showroom in Times Square where Spring 08 bikini's lined the walls. Its easy to imagine celebrity types wearing these few inches of fabric on the beach, but the reality is that these pro-riders are wearing it. My question is: How do you keep your goodies from falling out?

brendan donnelly aka "brando" is officially back in new york from 51 days of being jobless in los angeles. What do jobless people do? They make blogs and write in them...and though, Brendan is jobless this doesnt mean you can't learn a lot from him. I predict he will write for the Conan or Cobert show. However, with this recent strike from the Writers Guild of America which started at 12:01am this morning, I'm not too certain how soon Brendan's recruitment will be. I mean, even Tina Fey was striking and she wasnt laughing about it. Until there is hope...Please, read an excerpt from Brendan's blog about drinking coffee from hotel coffee pots...
